Getting caught short

Getting Caught ShortPerhaps the most important factor in the keto program is lack of preparation. When the Keto Diet is done well you should never get hungry through lack of food and never get bored due to lack of variety. So really the only sticking point can be breaking your diet because you have been caught short – a meeting runs overtime at work and you only have 5 minutes for lunch and there are only sandwiches available in the boardroom.

Choosing to lose weight so you can achieve a healthy body composition is one of most important investments we will make in our life. Achieving and maintaining a healthy body composition decreases your risk of developing a chronic disease and improves our quality of life.

The biggest investment you will have to put into this area of your health is time. Good food takes time to prepare. Learning how to make healthy food choices also is an investment in time. Having said this, once you have become proficient in all of these things it becomes much easier.

In the interim here are my top 5 tips to help you avoid being caught short

  • Always keep emergency food on hand (the car, the office, even your handbag)
  • Allow yourself enough time for shopping, so your fridge is always full of healthy foods. Some of the major supermarkets do home deliveries. If you are too busy to shop you can always shop online
  • Do your research, allocate time each week into planning your food, this will make life much less stressful
  • Always cook a double dinner if you can, that way you’ll have healthy keto-friendly food on hand for the next day
  • Batch cook on the weekends so you have a freezer full of healthy food for the week. Don’t forget, if you cooked it you know exactly what has gone into it and can guarantee that it won’t knock you out of ketosis.
