Kidney and Lymphatic System

Woman outdoorsPeople often get compliments after their detox that their skin looks luminous and their eyes are bright and clear, this is partly to do with the improvement in kidney and lymphatic function.

The kidneys clean the blood and remove wastes from our system continually throughout the day. In traditional Chinese medicine they are considered one of the most important organs of elimination. They are delicate organs and are easily effected by oxidative stress caused by toxins, stress and poor diet.

The lymphatic system is a series of channels and glands that can lie quite close to the surface of the skin. These are responsible for removing wastes and toxins directly from the tissues. There is no pump to move lymphatic fluid around the body, it relies on us to get up and move. So sitting in an office all day and not getting enough exercise can cause significant sluggishness in the lymphatic system.

When the kidneys and lymphatic system are under stress it can lead to dull skin, tissue congestion, fluid retention and puffiness. When these two systems of elimination perform at their best we have clear, glowing skin, sparkling eyes and look radiant, who doesn’t want that!

Kidney and lymphatic function is particularly important if you have been shown to have elevation of extracellular fluid in pre-program testing using bioimpedance analysis. We use a range of herbs and nutrients to address the kidney and lymphatic systems and will track your progress throughout the program using bioimpedance monitoring.

Manual therapies that may be of assistance during your detox to promote the flow of lymphatic fluid around the body. Dry skin brushing at home or specialised lymphatic massage (which is quite light and relaxing) will help speed results.
