Bioimpedance Analysis

How well is your body working?

Bioimpedance analysis technology has been used for many years to assess a range of biomarkers quickly and conveniently in a clinical setting.

A Bioimpedance analysis will screen:

  • Cellular health and function
  • Cellular toxicity
  • Inflammation
  • Fat mass
  • Active tissue mass (muscle mass)
  • Intra and extra cellular fluid levels
  • Your biological age vs chronological age (how well your body is ageing)

Generally this test is performed in your initial appointment, if time permits. We may recommend a repeat of this test at some point during your detox to assess your progress. This requires an extra 15 minutes added to your follow up appointment.

Why would we recommend a Bioimpedance Analysis?

Assessing Body Fat

This is a very useful tool to monitor you throughout your detox. In an initial screening we look to see if you are carrying excess body fat which is known to act as a reservoir for fat soluble toxins and chemicals. Over our lifetime we are exposed to a range of chemicals that can be stored in our fat tissue, these can act as endocrine disruptors and are related to a range of health problems. Surprisingly, this reservoir of toxins can actually make it difficult for us to lose body fat and often reducing our toxic load through detoxification will help improve our ability to lose excess body fat.

Assessing Toxicity

Another key marker we screen for in Bioimpedance analysis is fluid balance. An elevated extracellular fluid reading can indicate low grade toxicity and inflammation. Ideally, we should have more fluid inside our cells than in the extracellular space (the space between the cells). When we have toxins and chemicals stored in our tissues we tend to draw fluid away from the cells and into the extracellular space in order to dilute the toxins and minimise the damage. This marker can be slow to change and we can use it to assess how your body is responding to the detox.

Monitoring Inflammation

If you are undertaking a detox to improve an inflammatory condition, such as an autoimmune condition or gut imbalance such as leaky gut, Bioimpedance analysis can be very useful to track your progress.
